Full Description

Listed cast iron milepost outside the George Hotel, Alfreton, at the corner of Church Street and Chesterfield Road. The milepost is triangular in section, with 'Alfreton Parish' at the top, 'NOTTM / 16 / MILES' on one face and 'ALFRN / 0 / MILES' on the other. The milepost is painted white, with the lettering in black. The milestone stood on the Nottingham to Newhaven (Alfreton & Mansfield) turnpike road. (1) The grade II listed milepost is early 19th century in date, has a triangular section base with a sloping head, bead fillet to the edge and raised lettering. (2)
