Full Description
Cast iron milepost on the north-west side of the Derby to Chesterfield (via Alfreton) road. Triangular section, with mileages to Alfreton and Chesterfield on one side (5½ and 16 miles respectively) and Derby and Burton on the other (7½ and 19 respectively). On the top '134 LONDON'. The milepost was probably manufactured by J Heywood of Derby. (1)
A milepost dating to circa 1840. It is made of cast iron, and comprises a triangular sectioned base, with the east side inscribed 'DERBY/8, BURTON/19' and the west side inscribed 'ALFREn/5 1/2, CHESTd/16'. Above is a triangular sloping top, with a triangular topped headpiece over inscribed '134/LONDON'. (2)
