Full Description
A chapel is marked on the 1st and 2nd ed. 25" OS maps c. 1880 - 1900 on Church Street, Old Bolsover. (1, 2) Examination of modern maps indicate that the building may survive. (3)
Bulmer makes a reference to a Primitive Methodist Chapel in Bolsover in 1895. Examination of historic maps has failed to identify the location of this Primitive Methodist Chapel and, as such, this chapel may be the one Bulmer refers to. "The Primitive Methodist Chapel was erected in 1865 at a cost of £450, exclusive of much gratuitous labour". (4)
For 25 year the Primitive Methodists held services in a cottage in Hockney. In 1864 they built a chapel on Cotton Street (now Church Street) at a cost of £462. They sold this chapel in 1898 to build a larger one at Town End [see SMR 11282]. (5)
