Full Description
The 1st edition 25" OS map c. 1880 shows a Friends' Meeting House and burial ground, Chapel Lane, Monyash. (1) The chapel was still in use at the beginning of the 20th century. (2, 3)
The Society of Friends have had a meeting house and burial ground here [in Monyash] since 1711. (4)
A grade II listed cottage that was converted c. 1711 into Friends Meeting House. It was enlarged in the mid 19th century, now Sunday school [1984]. It is built of coursed limestone and has limestone and gritstone dressings. It has a plain tile and stone slate roof, and a brick gable end stack. It is of two storeys with single storey additions. There is a plank door with a large lintel to the west. The interior of the building has a gallery to the west and south. See list description for more details. (5)
