Full Description

The coal shute adjacent to No 14 Hopping Hill West Terrace is a Grade II structure built between 1800 and 1819. It is a Strutt innovation consisting of a wide stone paved embanked shute from the road for carts to tip their loads into the yard at the end of the terrace. The brackets for the former iron chain across the pavement edge of the shute still exist, but the opening now has a stone infill. (1)
