Full Description

Grade II listed L-shaped north wing, the west end adjoining the western range [SMR40183] of the eastern courtyard of Babington Hospital [SMR17059] originally designed by architect Giles Scott as a workhouse for the Belper Union. Built in the Jacobean style of ashlar with quoins and a slate roof in a similar style to the western range, of one and two storeys with similar fenestration to the west range and entrance lodge [SMR40182]. Thought to be circa 1838 but not shown on the Belper Tithe Map of 1844, so possibly circa 1845-50? (1)
