Full Description

A Grade II* listed, early 19th century range of farm buildings. There is an ashlar and red brick building with slate and tile roof to the Eastern Farmyard; and a coursed stone, two-storey range with three-storey gabled cross-wing incorporated in the centre of the range. The southern façade has two rows of rectangular vents with iron grilles and an external stone staircase with right angled turns (presumably a Strutt safety feature) at the top and bottom, and a retaining wall at the east end. There are pitching eyes and various doors and windows. A door in the north-west corner gives access through to the north side of building. The eastern end has vents and a loft door. The northern façade has a gabled part of two storeys and an advanced single storey part. This adjoins the gabled cross wing of three storeys and has a side chimney and side external staircase. The interior has vaulted construction supported by cast iron pillars. The southern elevation to the western farmyard has a two storey red brick building with tiled roof and vents. There is an arcade on massive masonry piers in front on the ground floor with a walkway above giving access between the east and west sides of the yard. A stable door has a pitching eye above. The northern elevation has a two storey red brick part and a red brick adjoining range with nine shuttered openings giving access to cast iron framed grain bins inside with a range each side of a raised centre aisle. To the Western Farmyard is a two storey red brick building with a tiled roof with vents. The west end has a loft door and windows now modified to form a garage. (1)
