Full Description
A Grade II listed house with parts dating to the mid-18th, early 19th and mid-19th centuries. Built of red brick with sandstone dressings and quoins and a Welsh slate roof, hipped to the south, the three-storey house has stone coped gables with plain kneelers, and brick gable and roof-ridge chimney-stacks. The west elevation is of three plus two bays. The three bays to the right have angle-quoins and quoins to the advanced centre bay. The ground floor has a projecting 19th century bay with a flat roof, extending one bay to the left of the main block. The doorway is to the right with a moulded stone surround and a raised and fielded panelled door. There is a tripartite window to the left and a single window to the left again, with moulded surrounds. To the right of the porch bay is a segment-headed window in a moulded stone surround, with a single-bar sash-window and three glazing-bar sash-windows above in segment-headed moulded stone surrounds. There are three similar but smaller windows above again. The bay to the left is set back and the ground floor is part of the porch bay. There is a glazing-bar sash-window above, under a wedge stone lintel with a stepped keystone. There is a similar window above again with a three-bay sash-window. There is a broad bay set back to the left again, with a segment-headed window to each floor with single bar sash-windows under segment-headed wedge lintels, except the top floor which has a plain lintel. Most windows have 19th century louvered shutters. There is a canted bay to the south side. The interior has an open string staircase with two knopped turned balusters per tread and a wreathed and ramped handrail. There is also a back staircase with stick balusters. (1)
