Building record MDR16116 - Gatehouse at Duffield Hall (and attached wall), 76, Town Street, Duffield

A Grade II listed early 19th century former gatehouse to Duffield Hall [SMR19420] that is now offices. It is a two-story building to an L-shaped plan, built of red brick, coursed squared sandstone and sandstone ashlar, with a plain tile roof and stone coped gables with plain kneelers, a stone gable chimney-stack and a moulded eaves cornice to the west. The west elevation is of three bays with a gable to the right, ashlar faced, with a central elliptical carriage arch with alternately raised voussoirs and 20th century glazed doors flanked on each side by three-light square section flush-mullion windows. There are two similar windows above, and either side of a single light round-arched window with a projecting impost and keyblocks. The brick south elevation has stone quoins, the centre bay advanced and gabled, with four glazing-bar sash windows to the ground floor and one above. The east elevation has iron-framed casement windows. The gable end to the road is flush to it, with stone walls extending about 20ft to the north and south. (1)
