Full Description
A Grade II listed, mid-18th century house incorporating elements of a 17th century building. Built of coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings, quoins, coped gables with moulded kneelers, and end brick roof-ridge chimney-stacks with an interlocking concrete-tiled roof, the house has tree storeys and three bays. Formerly with stacked two-light flush mullioned windows to the outer bays, and to first and second floors to the centre bay, the mullions are now removed from the south-west bay, and from the ground floor window to the north-east end. The doorway is now enclosed by a 20th century half-glazed porch and contains a 20th century glazed door surrounded with massive quoins and lintel. There are plain bands to the heads of the ground and first floor windows, stepped around the door lintel. The cills of the second floor windows formerly sat on the top of the first floor band, but have been raised, and infill stonework inserted. Part of a 20th century porch of the cottage attached to the south-west end encloses part of the south west bay. The plan form and main elevation are a close copy of Dial Farmhouse, Crich [SMR18474]. The attached lower cottages to the south west are not included in the listing. (1)
