Full Description

A row of four Grade II listed houses, probably built in 1830 to house textile workers for the Cromford mills. Built of coursed rubble with Welsh slate roofs, they stand on two levels. There are two red and black brick roof-ridge chimney-stacks. The plan is a variant on the 'Arkwright phase I' type: i.e. a two-storey, single unit with rear services; side stairs against the end or party walls behind the front entrance; two-bay front elevation, the entrance bay with no windows above the door, the other with the windows set under inverted T lintels; similar lintels to the doorways. No. 122 has 18 and 30-pane cast-iron window frames with central opening to the first and ground-floor respectively. Otherwise 20th century two-light casement windows throughout and 20th century glazed and part-glazed doors. The rear has two 19th century gabled stone wings and a 20th century re-constituted stone extension in addition. See List Description for further details. (1)
