Full Description
A Grade II listed bridge carrying Makeney Road over the railway. Built 1838-42 by George Stephenson, the bridge is red brick faced in sandstone ashlar and rock-faced sandstone. The bridge has five elliptical arches, rock-faced piers with a stone impost band and evenly radiating voussoirs. There are rock-faced spandrels, a heavy roll moulded band at the base of the coped parapet, and end piers. The bridge is on the main Midland Railway Line and is shown on the first edition of the Ordnance Survey map published in 1839. See list description for further details. (1)
