Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

Full Description

A Grade II listed former well house, late 18th century, built of coursed squared stone. It has a rectangular chamber, with a stone lintel over the entrance, which leads down steps to the water source. There are smaller steps at the side, probably for lodging buckets. The structure has stone walls and ceiling and is partially underground. The structure forms a group with Nos 8-12, 12A and 14 Well Lane. This is an unusual survival of a former public water supply of the period. (1)
