Full Description

[SK 14127115] St. Michael's Church. (4) There is a scratch dial on the centre buttress of the south aisle. It is much weathered and all that remains is the cemented-up stylehole and portions of four lines to the right, or east. It is 57" high and 4" from stylehole to end of lines. The stone on which this dial is cut is flaking vertically and it is possible that the dial will disappear altogether in a comparatively short time. (2) St. Michael's Church, Taddington, dates from the 14th century and was considerably restored in 1891. (3) In normal use. (5) Listed, Grade I. Church of St Michael. Parish Church. 14th century and restored in 1891 by Naylor and Sale of Derby. Rubble limestone with gritstone dressings and quoins. Lead roofs with coped gables and parapets. Stone slate roof to porch. West steeple clerestoried nave with aisles, north vestry and south porch. Chancel with north vestry. Tower and broach spire of gritstone, early 14th century. Spire with two tiers of lucarnes. Interior: Jacobean pulpit restored in 1942. Church includes 14th century stone bible support, brass pieces and wall tablets. (7)
