Full Description

Holy Trinity Church, Edale is situated here on the 1st edition OS map (as opposed to its current position across the road (see SMR 5045). (1) The first chapel at Edale was erected in 1633, and dedicated to the Holy and Undivided Trinity. This structure became so dilapidated that it was taken down in 1812, and rebuilt in a barn-like style. The present church was erected in 1886 (see SMR 5045). (2) Edale Chapel was pulled down in 1885. A 13th century font was found. The chapel (A.D. 1812) took the place of another one built in 1633. (3) The site is a small graveyard. The old font remains in the northwest corner, in an area occupied by immediately post 1885 gravestones, obviously the site of the church. (4)
