Full Description

"Some years ago [as written in 1778] an old woman caving for lead ore … between Winster & Bakewell aforesaid found a parcel of Roman coins, all small, and of copper, as report then said about a quart full; 4 of which being all I could get …". (1) A hoard of 'Third Brass' was found between Bakewell and Winster some years before 1778 by a woman searching for waste lead ore. It contained about a quart of coins; four seen were: 1 Urbs Roma (Treveri mint), 1 Licinius (SALNT), 1 Constantine Junior, 1 Diocletian. (2)
