Type and Period (1)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

"Crich is evidently a place of some antiquity, coins of Adrian and Dioclesian having been found in an adjacent lead-mine, whence it is conjectured that lead was first obtained here by the Romans…". (1) Haverfield comments on the above "This notice is too vague to be valuable". (2) No further information was gained in field investigation. There are great numbers of old lead mines and workings in the area of Crich. (3)
