Full Description

This property is recorded in 1479 as a gift from John Williamson to the Parish Church. The current building is late 16th/early 17th century with later additions and alterations. The façade is now roughcast render. The roof is tiled roof with an off centre chimney. The building is 2 storeys high with a cellar. It is circa 4 bays in width, with 2 windows and an additional small modern centre window on the 1st floor. The ground floor has 1 western window and a 6 panelled door with small rectangular fanlight and architrave. To the east there is a 19th century shop front with panelled pilasters and large reeded consoles. The house windows are all unbarred sashes in boxed frames. There is a large eastern carriageway arch under the building and timber framing is visible in the wall beneath. The interior has exposed ceiling beams and panelling of a type prevalent during the 16th and early 17th centuries. There are carved panels above 2 doors. The interior has built in 18th century cupboards with arches, fluted columns and fluted keystones. There is a late 16th/17th century Derbyshire stone fireplace. A 17th century window with leaded quarrels remains in the gable end wall, now covered externally by the neighbouring 18th century house. (1)
