These are Late Elizabethan and more characteristic of Devon, e.g. Totnes, than of Derbyshire. (1)
A grade II listed building that has a late Elizabethan plastered facade to a timber-framed house. It is of three storeys with a gabled attic, and to each floor it is jettied out. The first floor is supported on Doric pillars, forming an arcade along the pavement beneath, with panelled a wooden ceiling. The building has two windows within 19th century canted oriel bays with unbarred sashes. The upper floors have a central original pilaster on the facade. There are ornamental 19th century barge boards to the gables. The shop front has panelled pilasters and a centre door. The windows have moulded frames, with a centre vertical glazing bar remaining to each. There is a tiled interior. The first floor rooms have a moulded plaster cornice. The rear range of buildings is in Falcon Yard. The northern part is early 18th century red brick; the ground floor having been painted. There are brick string courses at second floor sill and (remnants) at first floor sill. The southern coped gable end has a bricked up attic window; otherwise it is of three storeys. There are five windows irregularly placed; they are sashes, and the top floor ones have boxed frames and glazing bars. The door has a plain fanlight. No 13 was formerly the Falcon Inn said to have been one of Chesterfield's coaching Inns. This building was formerly listed as Boden's Fish Buffet. (2)
