Full Description

SK 50317472 Markland Grips, Neolithic Stone Axe. A Neolithic stone axe-head of green polished Cumbrian stone was found in the talus of field stone clearance on the south side of the gorge, in the vicinity of the disused railway bridge. It was on the fourth talus east of the bridge lying on the surface. (1) The above grid reference lies some 730m south-west of the railway bridge. The axe has therefore not been plotted on the GIS.
