Full Description

[SK 24606265]T.8 (1) Low cairn, 15ft. diam. with an outer circle of larger stones, excavated 1930-4, when it was left open, the excavated material being thrown into the neighbouring quarry. A stone-covered pit at the centre contained a cremation with an incense cup and the remains of bronze tools or pins. Two cremations at the N. edge were accompanied by burnt pieces of bronze. [SK 24606270] T. 9(1) An artificial mound, 18ft. in diameter, excavated 1930-4 the only find being a flint flake. No excavation reports published for the following:- [SK 24616266] T. 29(1) [SK 24626267] T. 30(1) [SK 24626269]T. 31(1) [SK 24636264] T. 62(1) (1-3) Cluster of cairns centred at SK 24636269 has been so completely excavated that nothing remains but circular depressions partially infilled and surrounded by haphazard heaps of stones.
