Full Description

Level leads to very old, narrow vein workings, (typical of 17th to 18th century small Derbyshire mines). Sideway Level is shown on Barncaster's Plan, but without further information. If it was a sough, it must pre-date the lower Lathkill Dale Sough and, therefore, be pre-1770. Presently accessible level, some 200 feet into the Vein must date to c. 1800 by its construction. (1)
