Milestone inscribed 'London 138, Wirksworth 2'. (1, 2)
Listed, Grade II. Late C18 or early C19 milestone. Single gritstone slab, approx 1 metre in height, set into northern verge of the lane running east-west between Wirksworth and Belper. The convex south face of the post is inscribed 'LONDON 138 (miles) WIRKSWORTH 2 (miles)'. (3)
The first ed. 25" OS map records this milestone as 'Wirksworth 2, Belper 4'. (4) However the two succeeding editions have 'Wirksworth 2, Derby 11'. (5, 6)
