Full Description

Grade II listed police station built by Strutts in 1848. One of the earliest police stations in the country, it is built of ashlar with quoins, wide eaves and a hipped slate roof. The building has off centre chimneys linked by an arch over a ridge and two storeys with three windows each (but with the northern bay recessed). There is a stone doorcase with quoins and the rear cell wing remains. The police station is In a prominent position opposite the Strutt Mills. (1)
